British Airways reveals another new U.S. city: Fort Lauderdale

British Airways says it will begin flying from Fort Lauderdale beginning next summer. The airline will connect the South Florida city to London’s Gatwick Airport starting July 6.
The service is the second U.S. route to be announced by British Airways in a week. The carrier announced on Oct. 20 that it would begin flying to New Orleans in March. Unlike Fort Lauderdale, the New Orleans flights will be to London Heathrow. Heathrow is British Airways' main hub, though it also has a significant presence at Gatwick.
For its Fort Lauderdale schedule, British Airways will offer three flights a week on the route to Gatwick. That will increase that to four during the airline's peak summer schedule.

In announcing the Fort Lauderdale flights, British Airways said it would “offer more direct seats to London from Florida than any other airline.” British Airways’ also flies from the Florida cities of Miami, Tampa and Orlando. The carrier's Tampa and Orlando flights operate to Gatwick while the Miami flights go to Heathrow.
“We are excited to be adding Fort Lauderdale to our network,” Colm Lacy, British Airways’ head of commercial for Gatwick, says in a statement. “We also believe the close proximity to Miami will give businesses and holidaymakers more choice and flexibility over their travel schedules.”
British Airways will use 275-seat Boeing 777-200 aircraft for the Fort Lauderdale service. The planes seat 48 in business class, 24 in premium economy and 203 in standard economy.
Fort Lauderdale will become British Airways' 24th destination in the United States.
